OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) is a manufacturing method that a manufacturer, a consignee, produces and delivers products under a required brand by a seller, a consignor, who requests and sells semi-finished or finished products from the manufacturer. It means that there is an original manufacturer who produces and delivers a product apart from a company appeared on the products brand. A merit for the method is sharing roles between the seller who values the brand and the manufacturer who can only concentrates on production. As industry develops, a specialization also advances. For the manufacturing industry in particular, importance of specialization grows day by day. Now, it develops into ODM (Original Development/Design Manufacturing), which is a consignment method helps not only research and development but also marketing, as oppose to a simple OEM method previously called a subcontract. In this dissertation, I described things I have experienced when I manage a OEM/ODM company and my ideas and thoughts for development of OEM/ODM industry in the future. Especially, I explained current status of OEM production of cosmetics industry, and business flow for order and execution of consignment manufacturing. I added problems arise frequently between a consignee and consignor. Finally, I also addressed advanced roles of consigned manufacturers and OEM/ODM manufacturing from an institutional point of view.
